“ I visited the new location on Saturday evening and there was already a line to wait to get a table. It was great to finally visit the new location. Ironically they have more tables, and they are a bit short staffed, but they made it work! We got a table after waiting about 15 minutes and we opted for the Haemul Pajeaon (Seafood pancake) and Gochueuno Jorim (Spicy Makerel Soup). We got our side dishes and "purple rice" (white rice with beans - healthier option). To be honest we couldn't even finish both dishes because there was so much food. We really enjoyed the freshness and they did let us know that the stew would be a bit of a wait since they were making it. They do have plenty of alcoholic options, sodas, and water is bottled water. They state they do not have hot water to drink just so you know, but it was no big deal to us. Since they were short staffed, they weren't too attentive, but I was content with the meal we had and of course understanding since the quality and portions of the food were exceptional. ”
“ To sok jip is back! Away from the demolished old hut and into a new larger space in the strip center next door. The space is new and clean, and the menu prices certainly reflect the need to make returns. Everything has gone up including being charged $2 for rice! Yet, food quantity has gone down. The jun sits awkwardly small in the large plate it used to fill, bossam looks 1/4-1/3 less than before. Food is still delicious and service is much better than previously. But these prices+ quantities! ”
“ This was our go to Korean spot before the restaurants original location closed down. The food still tastes the exact same, soooooooo good. The portions are super generous as always and the banchan selection is so extensive. The hameul pajeon is crispy and ginormous, and the soybean puree stew is thick with my favorite doenjang flavor. It was also my first time trying their samgyetang and it was also really good: very light but also super meaty and healthy feeling. The only reason it is 4 stars rather than 5 is because I think they would benefit from hiring a few more people to help out in the front. Our food took a long time to be served and I think other tables had the same problem. Obviously, understandable since they just opened. Overall, this is one of my favorite korean spots in NOVA! ”
“ It is great to see To Sok Jip has reopened a block away from their old location. My wife and I had dinner here, it was good to see their location is larger, and very busy. Being so busy I was impressed with how quickly we were served and how quickly the food arrived. The table comes with the usual assortment of Korean sides/appetizers which were good, I particularly like the spicy seaweed and fish cake slices. We ordered the seafood scallion pancake,it is made with lots of squid so my wife was very happy. I ordered the bulgogi, and my wife ordered the cutlass fish. The bulgogi came sizzling in a hot bowl, full of aromatics which infused great flavor into the beef. The fish came fried, very crispy skin and tasty. Overall, I would come back again, it was a tasty and very satisfying dinner. ”
“ Good service, good food, new location. While the place and furniture isn't brand spanking new, I appreciate the larger space. The bathroom is a little weird but maybe they'll fix that. Their menu looks a bit abbreviated from what it used to be but understandable considering they're still getting back on their feet; or maybe they'll keep with this menu so they don't have to prepare as many different things. Bossam is the best. Big ol plate of perfectly cooked pork belly with the fixings to make little lettuce wraps. Their banchan is great - took them awhile to come around and give us a bit more but the kimchi radish is solid. So are the fish cakes. Bibimbap is okay. I don't eat beef so they fixed me one with egg. The vegetables in there are okay- not a huge fan of the jelly stick things but I liked that they use zucchini. The rice was only slightly crispy. The Gojujang sauce is good. It was also not arranged in a nice way but oh well. Saddens me to see people rating really low stars when they know that this early on it'll really hurt the ratings. Considering the business burned down entirely and they're trying to get back to normal, I think they're doing good. The upside is that this place is frequented by local Koreans which a) tells you its authentic but also b) hopefully means they're not really depending on review-driven business. ”
“ Second time back! (First time was at the old location) I had a good time savoring the warm beef soup on a chilly and rainy day. We also ordered the bibimbap which comes with a warm seaweed soup. The side dishes are excellent and I left the place feeling full and satisfied. Will recommend coming back for a casual meal while in the area for Asian groceries (h mart). ”
“ A few friends and I were trying to find a Korean restaurant for lunch yesterday and saw Tosokjib opened back up recently (we found it via Google Maps!!). Their new location is in a plaza near the previous location. It's been awhile since I've had Tosokjib, so I was excited to go back to enjoy some of the traditional Korean dishes that they make really well. The interior looked modern and new, and it was packed with people. So our group of 5 had to wait for about 10 minutes before we were seated. We didn't have to wait too long for our food to come out (it did come out one by one, though). While waiting, we enjoyed a variety of banchans (they gave us two sets of 7 different banchans). I enjoyed the kimchi, beansprouts, acorn jelly and fishcakes the most. GRILLED MACKEREL WITH RICE AND SOUP (고등어구이 & 찌개) - 17.99 If you are able to come for lunch (on the weekdays?), it's 13.99, which is a good deal. Along with a mackerel (sliced in half with all the bones and without the head or tail), you can choose a soup: soybean paste soup, rich soybean paste soup (a stronger version, I'm guessing) or seaweed soup. I've personally never had seaweed soup before (no one has made it on my birthday, I guess) and don't usually see it on the menu, I wanted to try it. It was a light, salty clear soup with lots of seaweed in it. Definitely felt clean and it was an enjoyable, simple soup. The mackerel itself was phenomenal. I didn't think the bones were too annoying to pick out. I love the simple and salty flavors of the fish, and the skin was crispy and flavorful. It is expensive for what it is, but I don't know how to make it myself, so I'm not going to complain too much. Very homey option, I'd recommend. Happy to see Tosokjib open back up -- looking forward to eat here again and get their other homey options. ”
“ This is located near bonchon and on the side of the Giant shopping center. Came here on a Sunday around noon, quickly packed but good moving crowd. Service is quick--was literally asked my drink preference right when I walked in the door. Bonchons and rice shortly after ordering (rice options of white or brown) The codfish stew was warming but personally lacked more ingredients. There was 1 mussel and a few pieces of codfish. Probably 3-4 pieces of tofu. Even though all seats packed, can still carry on a conversation. ”
“ Stumbled upon this restaurant on a cold, windy day. I've been to most of the popular Korean restaurants in the Annandale area so I was excited to finally try this one. It's a small, cozy restaurant and the ladies are very welcoming. They offer you water or tea and we got hot tea. They are known for their whole fish but I decided to get the bossam plate. The pork belly was plump and delicious, however, there were some pieces that were too fatty for me (I guess to be expected with pork belly). But the bossam plate comes with a good amount of cabbage, jalapeños, garlic, and kimchi radishes that help cut the fat. I also loved that they gave a lot of sides, as some restaurants don't do that. That was something that differentiates them from others. I would definitely come back again and try their fish! ”
